Description
This is a solid and well preserved Slingerland tenor banjo, most likely from the late 20s. A guitar luthier told me that the star in the headstock may be because it was part of a military band, but I have no info on that. The model, as inscribed inside on the wooden support bar, is "03", but I do not know what that means. I know that it is not a serial number.I do know that the parts are original, including the beautiful Waverly slide-off tailpiece. Also, this banjo has an interesting resonator board (see photos), something which I have never seen before, but I'm sure aficionados may know more. It is a 17-fret banjo, and the resonator and rim are birdseye maple. there is also a tone ring installed. This banjo is no shrinking violet. The frets are worn. This banjo has been played.
The tuners are original and therefore are friction tuners, and they work. Banjo comes with its original case and tension wrench.
