Description

A late 19
th
century impressive photograph of the interior of the Great Synagogue in Florence, Italy.
In the photo the front of the ark, the stage, the decorated walls, the cantor's prayer book and and the Menorot can all be seen.
The Great Synagogue was inaugurated on October 24, 1882. The impressive design of the synagogue was designed by the architect Marco Treves. The construction of the magnificent synagogue lasted for eight years. In light of the enthusiastic reactions to the inauguration of the synagogue in Florence and following the visit of the Italian King Umberto I to the synagogue in 1887, more large synagogues were built in the cities of Rome and Turin in the same architectural structure. One of the most interesting and rare remains in the synagogue is a particularly high Bama (stage), in the style of the period, which serves as a stage for the rabbi of the community or to preach when he comes to lecture to the synagogue worshipers [it can be seen in the center of the photograph].
Size: 25x18 cm / 9.5x7 inch. Very good condition, a few small moth holes.
