Description
Extraordinarily beautiful color lithograph on Ladies Victorian Celluloid Dresser Box, copyrighted 1904 by Wolf and Co, Philadelphia and signed “Martin Kamel”. Wolf and co is famous for the beautiful Victorian woman used in the Coca Cola advertisements.This exceptional piece is enhanced with rich vibrant colors and floral decoration that surrounds a beautiful young elegantly dressed woman in a large bonnet that ties around her chin in a large blue bow and a ruffled bodice that ties around her waist in a blue ribbon. The ribbon bares the signatures noted above.
The top and sides of box are further embellished with orange daylilies and blue forget-me-not flowers, brass hardware, and green marbled felt around the base of box. (see photos).
The interior, which likely held a brush, comb, mirror and other accessories (now missing) is lined with light green silk fabric.
Measurements: approximately 11” long x 7” wide.
Condition is "Used". Exterior lithography is in very good condition but when angled in glare of light show some minor spotting and light surface scratches here and there. No craculature on celluloid. The green felt on base of box that surrounds box is in good condition but shows some minor loss of felt and discoloration. The interior of box shows wear to silk fabric. The accessories are all missing. (See photos for details. ) The top compartment that held mirror up against the cardboard is loose. The back is lined with black paper but some small pieces have peeled off showing the balsa wood beneath. Overall in good condition considering its age.
