Toyota added this Supplement after the publication of the regular 1988 manual, which discussed all of the systems found in the 1988 Truck and $Runner, but was limited to the I-4 engine and powertrain.
Models with V-6 engines require this additional VZN Supplement  to the main 1988 manual due to engine and power train differences between the V-6 and the I-4 vehicles. If you have a V-6, you need BOTH of these manuals.
More explanation:
The VZN Supplement Manual only discusses the parts of the 1988 Truck/4Runner that are different from the 4-clyinder in line engined vehicle because of the change over to the V-6 engine in mid-year. . The regular, large manual discusses the vehicles throughly up to the point in the production run where they added the V-6 engine option in mid year of the production run. At that point, they needed a supplemental manual for the V-6 engine and all the changes to the drive train, running gear, and whaterever else had to be changed to accommodate the V-6. If you have a V-6, you therefore have to have BOTH manuals, one for the general vehicle, and one for the V-6 modifications.
