Please read this carefully...This item is from my wife's fathers estate. He passed away at 86 about a year and a half ago.
We found this instrument in a box in the back of one of his closets that we were finally getting to sort out.
Upon
further
investigation, This has been in his family since new. It was handed down to him as a young man.
His wife says she hadn't seen it in over 40 years, so its been in this box a long time. There is no one left alive to claim it and his wife wanted me to sell it for her.
The photos you see are exactly how it came out of the box, I did not clean it or wipe it down. I've been told things this old are best left alone so a proper
professional
can assess it.
I have no idea what exact year it is (1920 something) or what model it is. (I think its a Tenor) It play's but the little bridge is missing for the base that sets on the skin and holds the strings. The tuners all turn great and the
ferrules
are all tight, the neck looks perfect, all the diamond inlays are present, the body is nice and has one area in the middle that has a slight split in the outer finish. The back has some belt buckle rash on it and all the chrome has got some surface rust on it. There are 14 clamps holding the skin on all the nuts are there, nothing is missing. This is a sunburst finish, looks like my 6 string guitars finish.
It
definitely
needs restoration and I know there are some
professionals
on here that can help with the ID of it. I would be
grateful
for any help. My
mother-in law could use the money from this but I'm starting it out at 0.00, no reserve and let the market
decide
it's fate. I have a lot of photos so if you have any questions, just PM me and I get right back to you.
Thank you for looking! : )
