    Description

1870's-1880's Antique vintage 5 string flush fret fretless banjo.
Very rare flush fret banjo. Not sure of the exact date on this one, but general age is around 140 years old. Some of the features look very "Cubley" like (bent hooks, ball shoes, etc.). It has an 11" rim with a 26" scale, which is why the bridge needs to be placed so far back. I repaired a few missing bits of wood from the flush fret inlays and made a new Morris style bridge for it (it's just dyed maple). It's in great condition for it's age...both the outside rim and fingerboard are real Brazilian rosewood, and it has a Walnut neck. The only weird thing is that someone long ago put a small amount of epoxy on the end of the dowel stick, probably for extra stability, which I never bothered to remove. Also comes with what I believe is probably the original calfskin hide head. Tuners are violin type friction tuners and work perfectly well.
The action is nice and low and it plays extremely well. Neck is straight as an arrow and not warped at all. It's currently strung up with a set of Aquila Nylgut 5B.
